How did you attract your target audience?
We
chose our target audience to be within the age of 15-25 as they would likely be
searching for an adrenaline rush with their friends and we think that our film
would provide and satisfy them with the thrill that they seek. Furthermore,
this age group would have money to spend on entertainment due to most of our
audience still being in full time education and would probably have part time
jobs. It’s with this extra time that they have which would allow them to spend
their leisure pound on entertainment.
Our film would appeal to this type of
audience due to the various angles e.g. high/low angles, different types of close
ups and the massive contrasts of natural light with the enigmatic dark lighting
that is repeatedly used throughout the opening.
The combination of the camera
angles and lighting would provide the audience with a severely creepy
atmosphere that’ll make them very conscious of their surroundings with the
slightest touch from another person sending shivers down their spines. Adding
onto this, this film would definitely not be suitable for young children as the
dark lighting and lack of dialogue would either make them feel very bored or
make them feel terrified for days as the nature of the film isn’t for the faint
of heart due to the accompanied peaceful piano piece in the background may
trick the children into thinking that they can easily watch something that will
shock them.
Our audience would be drawn into our film and watch out for the
minimal dialogue. They’ll try to understand the story through the facial and
figure expressions that is present in our film. This accompanied by the
peaceful music would definitely trick the audience and leave them in suspense
as they wait to see what happens next. Furthermore, with minimal dialogue
questions will be raised forcing our target audience to watch the film several
times so that they can completely grasp what has happened in the film. This is
something new to the thriller genre yet still holds true to the thriller
genre’s typical conventions.
Our target audience will already have questions
before watching the film such as; how can you make a thriller with minimal
dialogue? Following this, our audience will also be attracted to the title
Broken. as few films place a full stop at the end of their title. This too is
something new to the thriller genre. With the placement of the full stop at the
end of 'Broken.' it implies that the title acts as a statement implying that our
female protagonist is mentally broken. This will also attract our target
audience.
Furthermore, a key aspect of the 21st century, is the heavy use of social media such as Twitter or Facebook. We used this as an advantage to attract our audience by creating a Twitter page. By having social media, we are able to advertise our audience and attract them to our film all around the world.
We also created Posters that would be displayed on Billboards, Bus shelters, cinema's etc.
